LAUREN MAE ROBINSON
This webpage has been set up to remember one of the bravest girls that we ever had the pleasure of meeting, Lauren Mae Robinson. Lauren is the only person with no connection to wartime who will ever be remembered on this website, only she alone will have that right. Lauren showed a keen interest in the history of the two world wars and attended the Remembrance service every year at the Cenotaph in Liverpool. We were so impressed with Lauren's respect for the fallen that we invited her to be our websites special guest, we were proud and honoured to add her name alongside ours.
We were also impressed and deeply moved by how Lauren fought Cancer so bravely and with a dignity way beyond someone of her young age. Like many others we first heard about Lauren's story on a number of Liverpool forums and Facebook, then followed it through the next few years, always hoping she would one day be cured. Sadly it was not to be and this wonderful and beautiful girl passed away on 17th April 2012, aged 10.
Lauren was an example to us all, our daily moans seem trivial compared to what she faced, and she did it with a smile ( and that cheeky grin ) Lauren touched so many, it takes a special person to do that, and she was, she truly was a special little lady.

Lauren was 7 years old when she was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (a bone cancer) in her right leg ,she received chemotherapy and had her leg amputated above her knee in September 2009....shortly after her 8th birthday. When Lauren had her leg amputated there was an older girl also having the same operation. Such was Lauren's spirit she just had to be the first to get out of bed ,to walk on crutches and to have her dressings changed. The other girl had been scared until she saw Lauren doing all those things first.
The humour was never far away with Lauren. She was upset that she wouldn't be getting her bionic leg fitted in time for halloween because she wanted to take it off and scare everyone. She then decided she either wanted to dress up as a pirate or as the fella in a wheelchair from Little Britain.

Just before Christmas 2011 some low life broke into the family home and stole the lap top that Lauren used when she was receiving chemotherapy at Alder Hey hospital. They also took memory cards containing photographs that where special to Lauren. I hope they are proud of what they did and I hope that karma catches up with them very soon. The story appeared in the Liverpool Echo and you can read it on the link below.

I only met Lauren once, it was at the Liverpool remembrance service in November 2011. She was waiting for the service and parade to begin, next to her was her little sister Ella who was babbling away in her pram, while proud mum Mandy watched over them. Lauren was an inspiration to us all, taking what life threw at her on the chin and remaining bubbly, a remarkable little girl. So many knew her story and they will all miss her. My son shares his birthday with Lauren so we will always give her a special thought on that day. It was a privilege to know about you and meet you Lauren. Sleep well little angel.

I had the pleasure of meeting little Lauren on a number of occassions since 2005, always accompanied by her ever doting mum Mandy. Usually connected to our shared passion of the history of the city, Lauren seemed as interested as us old fogeys when attending events such as the big history festival in the St Georges Hall or the bands on the Mathew Street festival or one of our early forum meet ups or the Lord Mayors parade or rememberance Sunday where I last saw her in November. Suffering so much for one so young in the last couple of years, Lauren was truly inspirational. God bless you Lauren and your loved ones - R.I.P.
