The Wallasey Miracle
One of the most remarkable stories anywhere during the raids on the UK happened at Lancaster Avenue in Wallesey. Workmen were clearing the street of rubble from the bombing on 12th March when they heard what they thought was the cries of a kitten. In silence they listened once more and realised it was not a kitten but the cries of a baby. At once they went to work on clearing the debris as carefully as they could, making sure nothing fell and hurt the child. After a short while they managed to reach the child, a baby girl, and brought her to safety. She was covered in dust and had lay there for almost 4 days, yet she was fine and well after her ordeal. Sadly she lost her parents in the bombing. 3 years later she was fit and healthy and living with her grandparents. A heart warming story amid all the madness.
